ÓLAFUR ARNALDS – LIVING ROOM SONGS FILM

Since Ólafur released the ‘Living room songs’ album, I’ve could go to two of his intimate concerts, and both was amazing. Touching.
But now, in celebration of Ólafur Arnalds’ recent BAFTA nomination for his score work on Broadchurch, he decided to streaming his 2011 Living Room Songs film in full; including behind the scenes footage which has previously only been available as part of the special edition CD/DVD set.

The mini album with the same title is still available for free download through this link and in physical form via the Erased Tapes online store.

Listen. See. Enjoy…

ELECTRIC LITANY – ENDURING DAYS YOU WILL OVERCOME

ELECTRIC LITANY_theFOMOblog

The story of Electric Litany could be a script of a Jean-Pierre Jeunet film.
Alexandros Miaris (voice, guitars, piano, synths) moves to London from the greek island of Kekryra. His future houses are all old, abandoned, derelict public buildings that carry their own history. A school, a library, then a town hall and a church. In these places a brand new band, formed in the spring of 2007, will take its first steps. Richard Simic (drums) comes to London from a farming village in sleepy Devon in order to look for a band. The two of them met by chance one evening and begun to play together in the town hall’s small theatre. The third member, Duane Petrovich (bass) from Texas, was found a bit later from a music ad.

The name Electric Litany came up as an oxymoron. The litanies and philharmonics in Alexandros’ native island have haunted him since he was a child. The band is powerfully electric, but involves no religious faith of any kind. Nevertheless their story so far is full of “religious” coincidences: they made their first demos in an old pub called “Fallen Angel” (converted to an illegal studio in order to meet their needs) and later on, without second thought, they recorded this album in Alexandros’ latest home, an abandoned church with great acoustics, built in 1895 in North London.

They collected instruments and equipment from everywhere, Alexandros spent 4 days into cables and plugs in order to connect the compartments of the church and George Botis travelled from Athens to do the sound engineering. 13 tracks were recorded live in 3 days! The recorded material travelled to Athens for the mixing and then back to London at the Abbey Road Studios where the mastering took place.
It’s quite tricky to describe the result in words. Eerie vocals, pauses that embrace some of the pious silence of a prayer. Melancholic atmospheres and dynamic guitars. Dreams scented with rain. Haunting melodies, elaborately orchestrated. Lonesome lyrics, few words that have a lot to convey. The sure thing is that the lo-fi world of “How To Be A Child And Win The War” is ready to unfold, share its experiences and carry away the listener. And Electric Litany is a promising band with lots of «gifts» to offer in the future.

Electric Litany - Enduring Days You Will Overcome

Now, after their first album ‘How to be a Child & Win the War’, they are back with this new LP titled ‘Enduring Days You Will Overcome’. And again, Alexandros, Richard Simic, Ben and Alex do a great job.

These are my favorites songs from the new album:

And, if you want to check it out, here is the video of the single too:

Ps: buy the special edition cd, the vinyl or download it through this website.

ROVER, ¡SORTEO!

Hello everyone. Today I want to raffle one of the best albums of the last years, in my opinion.
He is Timothée Régnier, alias ROVER. It doesn’t seem appropriate to write a bio, because his music speaks of himself better than anything else.
I was obsessed with his self-titled album during a long time, so when Rover released a deluxe edition, which includes the standard track-list and ten unpublished songs and also has a nice packaging, I bought it. Now, I’ve bought a second copy and I want to give it to any of you, guys. Just comment this same post or this one on facebook, before the 5th of March. Easy!
Good Luck! and in the meantime, you can listen to some of their songs below.

THE WATERBOYS – OPEN

A simple but good and stimulating song of my favourite bands: The Waterboys.
*The video is aesthetically pathetic, but, just listen to the track.

Open to the world
open to spirit
open to the changing wind
open to touch
open to nature
open to the world within
open to change
open to adventure
open to the new
open to love
open to miracles
open beloved to you

Open to learn
open to laughter
open to being blessed
open to joy
open to service
open to saying “Yes!”
open to risk
open to passion
to peace and silence too
open to love
open to beauty
open beloved to you

JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW & AOIFE MCARDLE

The last year I was obsessed with Mr. McMorrow and his album ‘Early in the morning’, specially with the songs Breaking hearts and If I had a boat.

Now, he is again knocking on my door, because the new album called ‘Post Tropical’ will be release on January 2014. And, in this case, he has created cool synergies with the always awesome Aoife Mcardle, who wrote and directed a films trilogy for the uncoming LP.
